Night at the Saloon by DawnFrost Night at the Saloon by DawnFrost
Maybe I should just quite comics and make digital painting still lifes instead. Jk. But seriously I feel like when I do these things they become my most favored pictures.

Still not completely happy with the glasses where the foam is or the barrel but everything else I'm surprisingly really happy with. I was going to do this in Oils traditionally but then I was too lazy to try to find them XD so I just picked up my tablet pen instead.

I think this was like ... 5 or 6 hours? not sure started working on it when I got back from dinner when ever that was. and now its like 2am ... funny how you can just keep drawing an loose track of time.

Anyway this is yet another Christmas piece

If your interested in buying a copy let me know and I'll work out a price for you depending on the size you want.

Any comments and helpful critique will be much loved.

~Dawn

This is awesome! I love the attention to detail, especially on the wheat(or barely?) in the background, and the shadowing. Great job! :D

both are beautiful- but I do think I like the other one more. The other one feels more finished.

Not that there's anything wrong with this piece. The lighting is beautiful. and I love the wheat thingies.

It's the lighting and the atmosphere in your still life paintings that draw me, quite honestly. Those little nuances that make it feel like something just a bit *more* than standard joe art piece.

very nice, the contrast and colors within the picture really set the mood well. That plant has to be my favorite part. It looks so fuzzy and feathery I want to touch it. I don't really know what you could do different with the foam on the glasses nor the barrel as I am not very knowledgable in that area. Where is the light source? The way you have it right now almost makes it look like the glasses are glowing under a spot light type deal. I think if you more clearly defined the light source it might help with building up the barrel. Something about how you shaded it is what makes it look a bit off to me. The barrel's shadow supports that the light source in from above but then the shadows from the beer glasses support that the light is coming from the left side. Does that make sense? I feel like the shadow of the barrel needs to be lessened. I really have no idea on the beer glasses though. Maybe study some pictures? That dollar bill is really good with all the detail you put in it. Very well done image. You should definitely do more of these. Well, I hope something in here might be able to help you out with what you don't like, it still looks really nice the way it is :)

The light sours is a bit off though I think thats because I was trying to go for two light sources Like the majority of the still lifes my professors set up. The spot light going down near the wheat. and then one on the able itself in between the two mugs. Though a lot of the shadows contradict that now that I look at it. I'll go back and fix that, as well as lessen the light on the barrel. thanks so much for the comment =]

...and great work! Nice warm colours, it really lets you feel the ambience. And the foam may look a bit like clouds but it doesnt make the painting look bad.
And youre right... I like your traditional work more than your comics (even though they are nice too and not manga(DA is flooded with it and they stop seeming creative after 10000 pictures of about 14 years old girls with oversized boobs (wtf?!) and eyes)). I think its just something you dont see on DA everyday and thats a pity.
